On Thursday 8th August 2024 the Royal Navy cohort from the Defence Specialist Welfare Worker Course graduated in the presence of their family members and became fully fledged members of the RNW Specialisation.
This was the culmination of 18 months hard work from their initial applications in early 2023 to them starting the course at The Defence College of Support (Worth Down) in January 2024. The students spent time learning various theories to enable them to offer support to our Serving Personnel & their families.
We challenged them with Practical elements with their fellow students acting as Service Users bringing various fictional family issues that would challenge the worker to support them in the best way possible and iaw current policy documentation.
Each student then spent 4 months honing these skills on a placement within one of the RN FPS Area Teams in locations such as RNAS Culdrose, Northwood HQ to name but a few. They conducted home visits, professional meetings with Local Authority Agencies all to give them the opportunity to evidence their learning through a Portfolio of evidence which would gain them a Level 5 Qualification in Specialist Welfare Work.
All seven of the New RNW Case Workers have now joined their new assignments armed with the skills to provide Specialist Welfare Support to our Service Personnel and their families though the difficulties Service Life can bring.
