
It’s a bit chilly for June…
Icebreaker HMS Protector made history when she sailed closer to the North Pole than any surface ship in the Royal Navy.
The Devonport-based scientific/research vessel got within 1,050 kilometres of the top of the world, punching through ice in the Fram Strait off Greenland.
It’s the first foray north by the ship in Royal Navy service – preparation for a sustained period off Antarctica this winter.
