Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, Southampton Families Trust are delivering parenting courses for Royal Navy Families.
We know that parenting a child with ADHD and/or autism is incredibly rewarding, but also exhausting and isolating at times, especially when parents are dealing with their child’s big emotions, meltdowns or behaviour which is aggressive or even violent.
That’s why we’re inviting parents of neurodivergent children to one of our upcoming parenting courses for Royal Navy families. Parents will be with others who understand the unique challenges of Navy life in a safe and non-judgemental space.
About the course:
- Format: 4 weekly sessions online via Zoom, with 2 optional follow-up sessions based on parents’ choice of topic
- Time: 7.30–9.00pm
- Choose from one of two groups:
- Wednesdays: 17 & 24 Sept, 1 & 8 Oct (optional extras on 15 & 22 Oct)
- Thursdays: 6, 13, 20 & 27 Nov (optional extras on 4 & 11 Dec)
What we’ll cover:
- Understanding and responding to big feelings
- Dealing with outbursts and meltdowns
- Managing challenging or aggressive behaviour
- Using consequences that work
- Looking after yourself as a parent
All Navy-connected parents and carers are very welcome. The sessions are friendly, practical and supportive.
