Results of the Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FamCAS 2025) have been published
Results of the Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FamCAS 2025) have been published on GOV.UK (www) along with the FamCAS 2025 Royal Navy/Royal Marines headline report.
The reports provide information on experiences of, and attitudes towards various aspects of Service family life such as housing, employment, access to healthcare, welfare support, childcare and children’s education.
Key findings include:
- The proportion of families that “feel valued by the Service” has significantly increased since last year.
- While ‘cost’ remains the most difficult aspect of childcare for families, the estimate of those families satisfied with cost of childcare is at its highest level in five years (41 per cent).
- 92 per cent of families are estimated to have required GP services, 91 per cent dental treatment, and 60 per cent required hospital or specialist services. This year, 25 per cent of families are estimated to have needed mental health treatment. These levels remain unchanged since 2024
- 46 per cent (+10 per cent) of RN spouses report feeling satisfied with their ‘quality of life as a Service family’, significantly greater numbers than in 2024. However, RN spouses continue to report significantly lower quality of life than do Army or Air families.
Rear Admiral Jude Terry, Director People and Training, said: “I would like to thank those of you whose partners participated in this year’s Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FAMCAS). These surveys are important. I know we ask a lot of you and them and it’s really important for me, and us as an organisation, to understand the challenges faced by those serving, and their loved ones who support them when at home and away.
“Your feedback and views are critical and make a difference in the areas we focus on and how we are looking to improve. In last year’s FAMCAS, you told us that your families did not feel they were getting enough communication and engagement from the Royal Navy. So this year I have launched the first of our Families Road Shows. This initiative sees my Engagement Team deliver briefings to families at locations across the UK.
“These sessions have allowed our families to connect, to learn and to be heard. The Families Roadshows will help me to further understand your family’s needs and where possible take your comments and use them to help influence change. We will use this year’s comments to build on our plans.”
