Military children’s charity hosts Tidworth 10K and fun run this April
The military children’s charity Little Troopers is calling on runners and families alike to lace up their trainers for a 10K race and family fun run at Tidworth the Oval on Sunday 13th April.
The event is being held to celebrate the fact that April is the official Month of the Military Child, with all proceeds going to Little Troopers to help continue its charitable work supporting the children of our British Armed Forces.
Led by Andali Events, the day will kick-start with a 10K race around Tidworth followed by a 1K family fun run for children and families of all ages. There will also be food and drink and lots of family activities and entertainment.
Both races are open to the public, with service personnel, military families, veterans and members of the local community all encouraged to come and take part. Entry into the 10K costs £25 per person and entry into the children’s fun run is £2.50 per person. Registration is now open.
Everyone participating will receive a medal. There will also be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the 10K race.
Little Troopers has also set-up a sponsorship page for those who wish to fundraise for the charity on the day.
Louise Fetigan, founder of Little Troopers, comments: “Growing up in the Armed Forces community can be a great adventure but it can also bring lots of challenges along the way. That’s why Little Troopers exists, so that military children always have somewhere to turn and have support in place wherever they move to.
“April is always a special month for us, being the Month of the Military Child, and it’s a great opportunity for us to bring people together to celebrate all the little troopers out there. Tidworth and the surrounding areas in Salisbury and Andover have a thriving military community, so we’re hoping lots of people will come along to show their support.”
Little Troopers is the only tri-service charity in the UK dedicated to supporting children who have parents currently serving in the British Armed Forces, both regular and reserve.
There are estimated to be more than 100,000 military children in the UK and these children often face unique challenges such as being regularly separated from their service parent for long periods of time due to deployment and military commitments, as well as having to move house and school frequently.
Founded in 2011, Little Troopers works tirelessly to ensure that all military children feel recognised, included and celebrated, through its various programmes, initiatives and events, which included a dedicated schools programme, family reconnection weekends, a monthly award scheme, deployment separation packs and a teen podcast.
Andali Events director, Andy Silvey, said, “We are delighted to be working with Little Troopers to host the Tidworth 10k and Family Fun Run. As a veteran myself, I fully appreciate the importance of Little Trooper’s mission to support military children, and we hope that the Tidworth 10k and Family Fun Run will be a great opportunity to bring families together, enjoy being active outdoors and raise funds for this incredible charity.”
