April is just a couple of weeks away and we’re looking forward to celebrating our little troopers. The Month of the Military Child gives us a special opportunity to recognise military children and the important role they play within the Armed Forces community.
We have lots planned and are really excited for the month ahead. We hope to see many of you either in person at our events or joining us online.
While it’s important to celebrate, we also recognise that this is a challenging time for some families, particularly with the current situation in the Middle East and the impact this can have on our military community.

Dandelion Day
The official flower of the military child is the dandelion. Last year schools, companies and our supporters joined us by wearing yellow.
If you are looking for inspiration we have some lovely new shop items including T-shirts and socks.
However you choose to celebrate, we’d love to see it. Please do share your photos and stories by emailing [email protected] or tagging us on social media.
Join us for our Celebration event
We would love you and your little troopers to join us for our Dandelion Toddle (1k) or Dandelion Dash (3k) on the 12th April 2026. The fundraising runs will be part of our Month of the Military Child Family Celebration event in Portsmouth.
There will also be music, stalls and family-friendly activities throughout the day, so we hope you’ll stay and celebrate with us.
Our gift to you
This year we have a special gift for little troopers. We will be giving away 200 A6 dandelion poem magnets.
Featuring the dandelion poem, each magnet is a small keepsake designed to be displayed at home or school

Workshop 3 for Schools
If your school is registered to our education specific mailing list, they will be able to get exclusive access to our brand new workshop, which is themed around dandelions and friendship.
We have some fantastic Month of the Military Child plans for schools, so make sure yours are signed up!
Nominate a Little Trooper
We love to recognise little troopers who have been exceptionally brave, inspirational or just extra special against all odds.
Anyone can nominate a child, who has a parent serving in the British Armed Forces, for Little Trooper of the Month. We love to hear from Unit Welfare Offices, Community Development Workers, Schools/Nurseries, Brownies/ Scout leaders and of course parents!
Our monthly winner will receive a £100 voucher, certificate and lasting recognition of a customised, unique medal.
Fundraiser of the Month
This month we would like to say a big thank you to the Chair of Monmouthshire council, who has chosen us as his charity of the year. Councillor Peter Strong and his Consort, his wife Jackie Strong have raised an incredible £2,193 already!
