Do you know about Disturbance Expense?

Disturbance Expense (DE) is designed to contribute towards the necessary additional expenses that may arise when the Services require their personnel to relocate on permanent assignment, however not all moves will qualify. Unit admin staff can provide further guidance on the regulations in JSP 752, Chapter 12.

When are you entitled to Disturbance Expense?

  • If the service person is assigned to a new place of duty and relocation is required.
  • If a move is required during an assignment for service reasons, this can include a move due to promotion, a request by DIO or an increase in family size.

How to claim DE:

Claims can be submitted by the service person via JPA and can be submitted 45 days before the expected move date.

How can DE help?

  • This expense can be used to prepare accommodation for move out,
  • Set up mail re-directions,
  • Potential storage,
  • Changing of utility services or alterations e.g. Satellite
  • Cost associated with school relocation e.g. school uniforms.
