The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is a psychological thriller about a famous painter named Alicia Berenson who shoots her husband five times in the face and then never speaks another word.

This is a space to leave your review/thoughts on this book.

The Bear meets Attack on Titan in this exhilarating, food-based epic fantasy filled with high stakes and monster steaks, perfect for fans of Pierce Brown and Jay Kristoff.

Paprick is a common butcher, carving slabs of meat from gargantuan monsters so elite chefs can prepare magic-granting meals for the rich. But Paprick's true passion is cooking, and if he can learn the secret art, his dreams of liberating his people and sharing the monsters' magic with the world could come true. He steals the precious ingredients needed to practise recipes at home, but if he's caught, he'll be executed.

As his desperation grows, he ventures into the black market and uncovers a spice imported from unknown lands. Combining it with the last of his stolen meat, he cooks a dish the world has never tasted before, with side-effects he couldn't have foreseen.

The dish's magic grows Paprick to kaiju-size, and legends of his powers spread among the people. Immediately, the rulers arrest him, but Paprick convinces them to make him a chef's apprentice—if they ever want to learn his Recipe. However, his exposure to the world of high cuisine reveals the rot at its centre, and with his new power, rebellion is only a few recipes away…

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Book Club meeting on Monday evening :-)

The majority of those who attended enjoyed this book, although there were a few who didn't ... The anchor score was a high 8.00 and went for a resounding SWIM with only 3 sending it plummeting to the bottom of the ocean!

Bat Challenge for Those who Attended the Children's Online Arts & Crafts Party

FWG Feedback and Pictures

We are starting a discussion page for those who partake in a FWG day out to be able to post how their day went and may show us a couple of pictures so others can see what fun you had too!

We have had some lovely pictures and comments which we will share with you all:

Just a little email to say thank you so much for all your time in making yesterday happen. We truly had the best day together and really topped of Niamh's 7^th Birthday. Apparently, it's all she's talked about today at school. Which considering previously all she was talking about was daddy not being here for her Birthday just goes to show the positive impact these days out have for those navigating deployment especially during special family moments like children's birthdays:

Just wanted to send a quick email to say thanks again for the tickets. We had a brilliant day and were lucky to have amazing weather as well! I think this scheme is such a great idea as I wouldn’t normally be brave enough to take the children for a big family day out whilst my husband is away on deployment. However, the free tickets persuaded us to give it a go whilst being able to take family members with us for extra help and support! It’s a great way to spend time together and keep building memories. Just thought I would share a couple of photos too:

Looking forward to our next day out at Longleat in a few weeks!

Paultons Park was absolutely brilliant - something for everyone and both my 2 and 5 year old loved it. We had a brilliant day out and they can’t wait to tell Daddy all about it when he is home.

A review from someone who was unable to attend our meeting last evening: Im caught up at work but will try and log on when I eventually escape. Just incase, please find my review below! I really like XigXag as an audible medium. You do need to download the book otherwise it doesn't hold your place (took me 3 attempts of listening to sort that!). You can change the settings easily to fix it! I like that it goes back a few seconds if you pause so you can get your head back into the point you stopped it. My only complaint is the amount of bloody notifications the app sends out- but again, I just need to change the settings! All in all, I can't see any difference to audible :) Im 60% through the book and really enjoy it. I cant be sure but I recon she did do it but has forward planned everything to eventually get away with it. Its the diary that makes me think this! Seems too much "evidence" of husband moaning etc. I am keen to finish (hopefully on run home!). If I dont log on in time, have a fab bookclub. Im pre empting me finishing it- but I am going for a 7 and swim :)

I loved this book! 9/10 swim!

I couldn't put this down, it was so easy to keep reading and I loved all the twist and turns. I enjoyed the different sections of Alicia's diary and Theo's 1st person account because it led you in different directions. I felt like a detective trying to figure out who was telling the truth!

I am recommending this to anyone and everyone!

This is the second I read this. First time was just after it was released and I really enjoyed it.

And even though I knew what happened in the book I still really enjoyed my second read. The characters are well developed and the intertwining story between Theo and Alicia made for an interesting journey. I still couldn’t put the book down even though I had read it before

unfortunately I’m not feeling well tonight so I won’t be attending the book club.

I really enjoyed The Silent Patient. I thought the story was intriguing from the beginning, especially the mystery around Alicia and why she had stopped speaking. I liked how the story gradually revealed more about the different characters and their relationships, and I found myself constantly trying to piece together what had actually happened.

I did manage to work out the twist before it was revealed, but surprisingly that didn’t spoil the book for me at all. If anything, I enjoyed seeing whether I was right and picking up on the little clues along the way. When everything finally came together, I still thought it was a clever twist and really liked how the story had been constructed around it.

I particularly enjoyed the psychological side of the book and the way it made you question the characters, their motives and who you could actually trust. Even though I had guessed where it was heading, I still wanted to keep reading to see exactly how everything would unfold.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. It was gripping, clever and kept my attention throughout. Working out the twist beforehand didn’t take away from my enjoyment at all, and I think it’s a great book for a book club because there’s plenty to discuss — especially whether everyone else spotted the clues before the big reveal!

This was another great book choice and one which reintroduced me to the joy of a book (as no Audible).

I was surprised by the ending but the story slotted into place and made sense. In retrospect I feel the timeline was purposely skewed so that it was harder to figure it out. I had many theories and considered most of the characters, but not the one that mattered. I almost want to re-read it with this new knowledge in place.

I had a real liking for Theo, his determination and forensic research to help Alicia. It felt like he had fallen under a spell and maybe the book would end with a happily ever after for the two of them.

I felt sorry for both of them initially. Theo - for Kathy's betrayal that broke his heart and was the catalyst for the unravelling of his world, and of Alicia's. And I felt sorry for Alicia for the hardships of her upbringing, the love she had for Gabriel, the moments of madness and the very sad way she ended up.

It was a satisfactory ending, I had wanted the perpetrator caught. Very well written and engaging, really enjoyed reading it. 8/10 Swim.

I am quite a slow reader and I often find it helpful to have the audio book at the same time. I absolutely whizzed through this and found it a very interesting, twisting plot-line that kept me hooked. Not my usual genre but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for this suggestion. 4/5

I read The Silent Patient some time ago as part of our local book club.

I loved this book, kept me hooked, it is the type of genre that I do like to read and I wasn't disappointed.

The twists left me not wanting to put the book down, I didn't foresee how the book was going to end at all!

Loved it - 9/10

It was Blowback by James Patterson. It's about an American president who uses the American military assets to take revenge on personal targets and nearly causes WW3. James Patterson is a really good author if you like action novels.
