In September we come to the last of the books for this 6 month period, as agreed we are moving towards three books form the group and three mystery books chosen by Waterstones, which is very exciting !!! I am aware that not all members are able to join us on the online meeting each month so I thought I would start a discussion on the RN Forum on which genres people would like from there choices. Any genre will be looked at, this round the book that seemed to hold its own the best was the "The Girl with the louding voice" which was under the genre "Cultural Authors"

We need three genres by the 21st Sept to put to the room and then depending on numbers for each genre we will then share with the group on line and on the RN Forum. If you wish to be involved in the voting process this time please let us know via email direct or on this feed.

Book Club Discussion for The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

Our books will be with us soon, and I have started this discussion before they arrive as I am going to be taking some time off to spend with my grandchildren [emoticon:578cee8aac0e41e9bcef50a2f8d281d5]

Our next read is The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion:

I really enjoyed this, and agree with the other comments that it was a nice easy read (I read it in less than a week). My only criticism is that I would have expected Don to be aware that he has Asperger's, as this seems to be a surprise to him, although he acknowledges that he's "wired" differently.

Overall, though, it was a fun read, and it's prompted me to join my local library service (after 19 years of living in this town!), so I can borrow the audio book of The Rosie Effect, which I'm now listening too. It's much easier than trying to squeeze in another read, especially when I'm trying to get through my own backlog of books.

(I've also read Before the Coffee Gets Cold, which is one I put forward a while ago. I found it on the shelf of a holiday cottage we stayed in a few weeks ago. Needless to say, I'm glad it wasn't chosen!)

House of Dynamite is one of those films that had me feeling stressed just watching it . The whole idea of having minutes to decide what to do about an unidentified nuclear missile is terrifying, and I actually thought the tension was really well done.

Rebecca Ferguson was brilliant, and I really liked that the female characters weren’t just there in the background — they were actually involved in the decisions and the crisis. I just wish we’d got a little more character development from some of them.

Really gripping in places, although I did find the repeated perspectives a little frustrating. Overall, I enjoyed it, but it didn’t completely blow me away. Definitely worth a watch though!

Lego Serious Play - September Recap

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Lego Serious Play session last evening, I think it is safe to say we all had some fun with the Lego games that were played [emoticon:0f36700dfeb3494fa10d47dd9e1f90a1]

Our first game was to sort the pieces in the fastest time. Our winner was very fast indeed, well done Lottie.

Our second game was to build 5 diamond shapes which were shown on the screen, again we had a very fast winner, well done Ali.

Our third game was to follow verbal instructions to create something similar to this:

These are a couple of interpretations, I think you will agree they are superb:

Another game we played was to create a self portrait in 5 minutes, again some great Lego building went on:

We also played the sock game - given the selected 10 Lego pieces and then asked to pop them in a sock in no particular order. Then tasked which Lego piece to retrieve from the sock - the quickest wins a point.

Our last game of the evening was verbal instructions to build the letters to spell out Lego with some of the new bricks we had received:

This was a tricky build but lots of fun.

Thank you to everyone for a fun evening of Lego, and very much looking forward to next month's session already!

I enjoyed this book. It was giving me big bang theory vibes and my brain made Don into Sheldon! Nice and easy read, funny in places. A complete contrast to the last few books!

I would definitely recommend for an easy read book

I did enjoy this story, a love story with a difference. It did make me smile in places, it was an easy read which I feel Book Club has needed, as quite a few of the other books we have read have been, for me, challenging and heavy going.

I would give this book 7/10 and swim. I will be recommending to a couple of friends.

Thank you to one of our members who came up with this brilliant game.

We would love to hear if you have a go at building it and playing it at home.

Here's the instructions on how to play:

On your turn, roll the dice and move your minifigure along the wall (1 move/space is one Lego brick dot). You can only hop onto an island when you reach another player's corner (you cannot hop from your own corner).

You can only land on the corners with exact number on your roll. So if you roll a 3 and only needed 2 you have to carry along the wall to then try coming back on yourself.

If there is treasure on the island, collect it. However, to get off the island, you must roll a 1.

If an island is empty of gems, it sinks beneath the lava and cannot be used by other players to hop to the middle island.

The first player to collect 2 treasures and reach back to their corner wins!

Well Wnd of Oak Street was an interesting watch! Didn’t know anything about it but love Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. Mixture of Jurassic Park meets 1960’s sitcom. Laughing in places like Randy dinos but also did not understand how she managed to warn so many people and become famous for it all in one short space of time from a payphone.
it was an ok watch but not sure I would recommend it to anyone. Maybe once able to view at home and run out of other things to watch. Interesting that someone came up with such a bizarre idea. Fair play to the writer who indulged a little comedy, romance, intrigue and gave frights in various places.
